Cocoa Currency

Did you know that as early as 1000 AD Mayan people of Central America used Cocoa beans as a form of currency? Taxes were paid in Cocoa beans. As a result the Cocoa bean was very valuable and only the Kings and very wealthy of Mayan civilization were able to enjoy Chocolate.

I don't know about you, but I am glad that I wasn't born a common Mayan. If I had, I wouldn't know the joy of hot chocolate or of any kind of chocolate. Now that's a depressing thought!
